Headteacher's Welcome
My name is Jo Cookson, and I am the Headteacher at North East Essex Co-operative Academy (NEECA).
NEECA is an Alternative Provision School for children aged 5 - 16, most of whom have found it difficult to be successful in a mainstream school.
We are very proud of the provision we offer, which is down to the great work our teachers and support staff do to re-engage young people with education. Children are taught in small groups enabling them to make good progress as teachers are able to ensure the learning is tailored to their individual needs.
The core curriculum is taught in Key Stages 1, 2 , 3 and 4. In addition, we provide rich and varied extended curriculum opportunities including: music, literacy interventions, horse riding, vocational courses to name a few.
At Key Stage 3, in partnership with local schools, we focus on supporting young people to return to mainstream school. At Key Stage 4, we focus on providing the opportunity for students to gain 5 GCSE's so they can successfully transition to education or training post 16.
Many of the young people who attend NEECA arrive with us at a point of crisis or conflict in their lives. It is our aim to ensure that we help them to regain a sense of confidence and self-esteem which allows them to compete on equal terms with their peers, despite the disruption to their education caused by leaving mainstream school.
All staff that work at NEECA embrace our vision of 'every child known and known well'. This is at the heart of all we do and we are very passionate about working in partnership with our parents and carers to successfully help and support every young person that comes through our doors.
